Casual fans will foolishly cite Ege Bamayasi as their favorite Can record but Tago Mago is oh so much better. In my opinion 18 or so minutes of the Halleluhwah trumps any other track that Can has produced. I dont know if its just me but there is something very primordial about drums being pounded away in to a hypnotic groove where everything just falls into place. Its hard to describe so I wont.

I have been listening to a lot of obscure music lately and I completely forgot about this album which I acquired a long time ago from this amazing blog. Once again, not much is known about this album but all you need to know is that Ennio “motherfucking” Morricone used to play the trumpets for this band. The album opens with an absolutely amazing drum break that I could listen to for days. This album sounds a lot like Can but without the crazy vocals of Damo Suzuki. It features some amazing breakbeats which are just begging to be sampled. Speaking about samples, remember this Cut Chemist track from the ipod commercial that everyone loves so much? Well Cut Chemist actually samples that drum break from the track “Kumalo” from this LP. The album only contains three tracks but they make up for 20 minutes of excellent music. Honestly if anyone has a passing interest in crunchy drum breaks, check this record out.
