Kyp Malone is going solo. TV on the Radio’s prodigiously bearded, falsetto-voiced zen master has a solo project, and he’s calling it Rain Machine. This fall, the first Rain Machine album will be released on Anti-. As Malone explains in a press release, “I’ve been writing and recording songs alone since I moved to NYC in 2000, at first alone because I didn’t know anyone, then through the years by choice because of a particular freedom that going it alone afforded. I’ve played regularly since then, at first under the name Black Lights until some kids in Texas told me they were already using that name. Then under my own name, but I didn’t like how ‘Kyp Malone’ looked on mock ups of T-shirts and fliers, thus Rain Machine.”
Malone recorded his solo debut with Lucinda Williams producer Ian Brennan. In that press release, he describes the album as “A nearly full spectrum of frequencies audible to the human ear– a reflection of a variety of emotions and situations real and imagined, some rhythm and some rhyme.”
UPDATE – Here is the album artwork and the track-list for the album. Release date is September 22/2009

Have you heard any of his stuff with the band, Iran?
yeah i think their last album was called Dissolver. I listened to it once and it was pretty mediocre. I have high hopes for his solo output though. Some of the best tvotr songs were written by him so it would be interesting to see what he does without the producing genius of David Sitek.
